Chapter 1: Light From the Sky

The chapter begins with a prologue, which explains the origins of the Niji Chikara—long ago, a being of unspeakable evil appeared and began to wreak havoc. To counter it, a being of immense goodness granted four girls the power of Light, or the Niji Chikara, which they then used to seal the evil being inside the planet. But the seal was imperfect, as every 1,000 years, the evil being unleashes Darkness upon the world above, turning certain chosen individuals into powerful villains. The Niji Chikara too returns to stop them, creating a cycle that has lasted for thousands of years.

While reading about this ancient legend, Rikou Nikara notices beams light falling from the sky, marking the return of the Niji Chikara.

Meanwhile, Chishiki Natsu goes to school, having brief conversations with Yukai Fuyu and Jin while there. On her way home, she notices a red light in the sky, which strikes her and bestows her with a red necklace. Though she finds this experience odd, Chishiki decides to stash the necklace in her backpack for now and hurry home.

At home, though, Chishiki continues to be bothered by the mysterious necklace, which she quickly realizes has strange, magical properties. She finally decides to investigate further while in the garage, feeling compelled to place the mysterious necklace to her forehead. This initiates a transformation sequence, and she emerges as a magical girl.

Chishiki decides to escape the garage as quickly as possible, hoping to avoid having to explain her newfound getup to her mother. While doing so, she is surprised to learn that she now has the ability to fly. She then spots another magical girl flying around in the sky, and flies up to greet her, quickly recognizing her as Yukai from school.

Chishiki and Yukai agree that they need to figure out what's going on, and land in a nearby park, where they test out their new magic wands—turns out that Yukai's wand can shoot water, while Chishiki's shoots fire. Chishiki freaks out from frustrated confusion, while Yukai ponders the possibility of using their newfound powers to fight bad guys.

This is quickly put to the test as the girls overhear explosions off in the distance. After a brief argument, the two of them rush off to investigate, where they encounter their first villain—Masked Malice. After a short battle, Malice retreats, leaving Chishiki and Yukai to be even more confused.

In the midst of their confusion, they are approached by Rikou Nikara, who tells them that she can explain everything that is currently happening to them, beckoning them to follow her. The girls agree, and do so.

Meanwhile, Malice rests from the fight, pondering the implications of having to fight flying heroines. But he decides to worry about it later, thinking that he'd best hurry home. He takes off his mask, giving the readers a glimpse of his face.
